  • Audition materials and procedures are the same for both the Concert Band and the Symphonic Band.
  • The $25.00 fee will be charged for each auditioning student. Fees are collected online when the student registers prior to uploading their recording.
  • The Deadline for audition submission is 5:00pm on November 30, 2022.
  • Students that are proficient on multiple instruments within the same family (flute/piccolo; oboe/English horn; high clarinet/low clarinet; all the saxophones, trombone/euphonium, etc.) are strongly encouraged to submit an audition on each instrument, using separate audition files. Only one audition fee is required.
  • All percussionists must audition on the three major instruments: snare drum, timpani, and mallets.

How your audition will be assessed
Each faculty member from UNC creates their own scoring system and is consistent for each auditionee.  Be assured the judges are listening for the following musical criteria:  tone quality, rhythm, intonation, technique and musicality.  Focus appropriate attention on the scales; they are essential.

Colorado All-State Band
Audition Recording Submission Instructions
  1. The Band Director that wishes to allow their students the opportunity to audition for the Colorado All-State Band must register and be confirmed as a member of the Colorado Bandmasters Association.  Directors can register on the following website – https://casb.virtualaudition.cloud 
  2. Once the director is registered and confirmed, auditioning students can then register their appropriate information on the same website.  Students not able to register should verify with their band director that they have completed step # 1.
  3. When both the director and student have completed their registrations, only then can the director upload each of their students audition recordings to the website.

NOTE: You will be required to pay the $25.00 audition fee BEFORE your director can upload your recordings.  Make sure you have your credit/debit card ready when you complete the registration.

Major Scale of your choice:  2 octaves, in 16th notes, quarter-note = 112
Harmonic Minor Scale of your choice:  2 octaves, in 8th notes, quarter-note = 120
Chromatic Scale of your choice:  2 octaves, in 8th notes, quarter-note = 80
Flute/Piccolo
Students proficient on piccolo are encouraged to submit a recording of the same excerpts on both flute and piccolo - there is only one fee of $25.00 to do both auditions.

Students may choose to audition using either the trumpet/cornet or the trombone audition.  If you typically play euphonium in treble clef, play the trumpet/cornet audition.  If you play euphonium in bass clef, play the trombone audition.
