The All-Colorado High School Band was organized in 1952 for the exclusive purpose of providing superior students an opportunity to play with students of like ability. This purpose has not varied since the first band, composed of 182 students recommended by music teachers and band directors throughout the state.
Beginning in 1953, faculty members of the Colorado State College Division of Music conducted auditions throughout the state to select participants in the band. This practice has continued in various formats since 1953.

The 37th Annual All-State Band marked the addition of a "small school" All-State Band. Students in grades 10-12 from small schools (A-AA) would audition at the same time as students in grades 11-12 from large schools. Juniors and Seniors from any Colorado high school (regardless of size) are eligible for the Concert Band, but only Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors from small schools are eligible for the Wind Ensemble.

HISTORICAL THANK YOUS
Over the history of the All-State Band, many individuals and groups have been essential for the success of the organization.
Over the history of the All-State Band, many individuals and groups have been essential for the success of the organization.
- The event surely would not have the success is does without all the faculty and staff cooperation from the University of Northern Colorado. Special thanks to the directors of bands: Wayman Walker (1952-1978), Eugene Corporon (1979-1984); David Wallace (1981-1985); Kenneth Singleton (1986-2019); John R. Bell (1986-1990); Richard Mayne (1993-2019), Wesley Broadnax (2020-present) and Dr. Daniel Farr (2022-present).
- For much of the All-State history, students at the University of Northern Colorado have performed concerts for the high school students. We would like to thank everyone that performed on an All-State concert for the wonderful music.
- Beginning in 1955, volunteers have been listed as serving on some form of guiding committee (currently the All-State Steering Committee). We would like to thank all the individuals that have devoted their time and energy to keep this event so strong.
- The music the students use for the performances can be a major expense. We would like to thank the Arapahoe Music Company who provided music in 1972 and 1973, and the Flesher-Hinton Music Company who provided music from 1974 to 2019. A special thanks goes out to Ken Anderson from Flesher Hinton music for not only helped with the music for the All-State Bands, but provided shirts for the directors "Over The Hill" band and helped to provide instrument repair technicians from Flesher Hinton Music to help with last minute instrument emergencies.
- An event like this takes a lot of physical labor. We would like to thank the band sorority (Tau Beta Sigma) who is mentioned as a service organization from 1967 to 1986 (in 1986 Tau Beta Sigma was merged in with Kappa Kappa Psi) and the band fraternity (Kappa Kappa Psi) who has been providing invaluable service since 1967.
- The first mention of the Colorado High School Activities Association and the Colorado Music Educators Association was in the 1961 program. We are so thankful to these organizations for their ongoing support of the event.
- From 2007 to 2019, Jennifer Beck worked behind the scenes as the coordinator of the All-State Bands. During this time, the event saw tremendous growth and we couldn't have done it without her.
- Finally, this event wouldn't be possible without the ongoing support of our high school band directors and their administrations. Thank you for your commitment to the music education of these students over the years.
